Chapter 3 takes a critical look at the understanding of metapolicies in the literature.
In the next chapter, an enhanced policy life cycle is developed clarifying the states a policy has to go through. Also in chapter 4, the supporting policy processes are characterised.
On the basis of this, chapter 5 introduces the concept of metapolicies for the management of the policy life cycle and its related processes. A number of examples show how metapolicies can be used for policy management.
Chapter 6 presents a design I developed to integrate metapolicies into an existing policy-based management system. It focuses on reusing existing infrastructure. Suggestions to put the metapolicy concept more completely into action are presented.
Chapter 7 summarises the work and presents an brief outlook.
